My friends have done some backpacking through several mountains in the US. Where is the best place or most popular place to go in the US?

One of the more famous trails in the US is the AT (Appalachian Trail). We've hiked portions of it, but it will be a long, long time before we're able to make the time commitment to tackle the whole shebang. LOL

I've really never backpacked, I'm not very good with heights, so it couldn't be mountains , maybe I could start with a short one, kinda close to the ground, any suggestion

A very popular trail on the west coast is the John Muir trail.
There are plenty of good beginner and advanced trails in the Mammouth Lakes area.

I've always wanted to get into rock climbing and mountain climbing. I just never worked at getting in that good of shape to do it. I just dont know if I could trust climbing gear to hold my weight, nevermind hanging from my fingertips from a rock . But, I have alot of respect for those that do climb. They're the ultimate outdoor survivors. Maybe in my next life.
But, if I can hike a trail to the top of a mountain then, I'm there...
