We're bored with s'mores! LOL

I tried a dutch oven black forest cake, but that was a complete disaster.  The recipe told me to bury in the coals for an hour, but the darn cake burned up to a hard black block of coal within about 15 minutes!  I'm not sure what I did wrong, but the experience so scarred my husband and son, they would rather me not give it another go.   Roll Eyes

I saw the caramel apple idea and that sounds yummy.  But what else have ya got?

Yeah, starting off dutch oven cooking can be hard, but once you get the hang of it.  Last trip I burned biscuits in mine.  You can never go by the times given, because the temperature's and # of coals.

Cobbler's/ Dump Cake  are pretty easy

1-2 cans of pie filling (your choice of fruit)
1 box of cake mix (I use yellow or white)
1 stick of butter (melted)

Pour pie filling in oven
Sprinkle cake mix over filling (use the whole box)
Pour melted butter over cake mix

Place the dutch oven over coals  8-10
Place coals (8-10)  on lid
Bake for 25-30 minutes, but check on a regular basis, bake until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly

P.S.  If you use apple pie filling, you can use caramel cake mix for the topping and it like a caramel apple.  You could also add nuts.

I think you should try a cake again. I love to make a chocolate cake in my dutch oven. While cooling I mix up a package of instant milk chocolate (or any flavor you choose) pudding. Once the pudding is set, and this doesn't take very long we serve it over the warm cake and cover with cook whip. Yummy.

Your cake baked too long and at too hot a temperature. Use less briquets (sp) and check it  it you need to. I love using a dutch oven an usually 8 or so briquets underneath and 5 or 6 on the lid will do the trick.

Good luck

Orange Cup Cinnamon Rolls
This one is fun cuz you use the orange to cook in: 4 Oranges, 1 Can of Biscuits, Cinnamon, Powdered Sugar, Little bit of Milk Directions: Cut 1/3 of the orange off and scrape pulp from the insides of both pieces. Take 1 biscuit and mash out. Sprinkle a little powdered sugar and cinnamon and layer with another biscuit and repeat. Usually takes 2 or 3 biscuits. Roll up the layered biscuits and put into the hollowed orange. Add about a tablespoon of powdered sugar on top and a teaspoon of milk. Replace top and wrap in tin foil. Place in coal of fire for about 30 minutes. Remove, unwrap, pull top off and out pops a delicious cinnamon roll with a hint of orange.

I have blog where people send me their favorite off road recipes.  This is a really fun desert you can do camping. My blog is

I got this recipe out of my Country Garden Magazine.  Great if you have a RV or dutch oven.

4 cups quartered strawberries
1cup sugar
1/3 cup water
2 7.5 -ounce cans (10) refrigerated
Buttermilk biscuits, separated and
Cut in quarters
Sugar (optional)
Whipped Cream (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F.
In a large ovenproof skillet, combine strawberries,
the one cup of sugar, and at the water. Bring to boiling over medium – high heat;
And cook and stir about two minutes or until slightly thickened.

Arrange biscuits quarters on top of the strawberry mixture in the skillet.
If desired sprinkle lightly with additional sugar.
Bake in oven 18 to20 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown. Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired. Makes 8 servings.

You can use this one for breakfast OR a sweet dessert treat is Strawberry Chocolate Chip Pancake Dippers. My family absolutely LOVES this one. By planning ahead and packing pre-made ingredients, you can make this pretty quick when you're out and about.

Batter:
-Instant Pancake Mix
-Chocolate Syrup
-Chocolate Chips
-Butter or Butter Spray for Greasing skillet
1. Mix pancake mix and chocolate syrup until smooth. Heat skillet with butter/butter spray.
2. Add chocolate chips/chunks to batter and stir until evenly distributed.
3. Drop medium-sized amount of batter into buttered, heated skillet and flip once bubbles develop on the top of the batter.
4. Once cakes are solid, they will be ready to cool and serve.

Syrup/Dipping Sauce:
-Strawberry Jam
-Light Corn Syrup
1. Blend both ingredients well with a fork or whisk.
2. Serve in small bowl with your cakes.

Absolutely De-Lish.
