Finding the right Canoe

Over the past week I have looked at all the options when it comes to canoes and found one reoccuring feature.....COST!!!

These things are crazy expensive  but, i think i found the perfect canoe that will fit both us and our budget...the Old Towne Guide 147.

Oh, i almost forgot...if you are like me you will have to  buy a roof rack and those are expensive too! while i would love to have a Yakima brand setup, i must be more conservative. I found www.prorac.com....hopefully they wont be cheaply made.

I opted for the Adventure 14 two-seater by Mad River Canoe.  I'm a BIG guy, and needed the 800lb. load capacity.  I installed a folding boat seat in the small center position, as the front & rear seats would have me off balance.  Maneuverability is excellent, and this spring I will add an electric trolling motor and a deep cycle battery to ease travel against the current.
My MC riding/camping buddy has a kayak, and we plan to do some boat camping later this year.

Our local canoe/kayak outfitter was having a year-end sale, and we got good prices.  I bought mine new, while his was used.
