Do you do much winter tent camping? It's been awhile but I used to enjoy hiking out into the woods and camp during a snowstorm. It's nice and peaceful and quiet out in the woods when it snows. It's fun to sit by a fire and watch it snow. I'd like to take a couple weeks off work and head out somewhere in the rockies during the winter and do some winter camping. I just have to find a place to leave my truck where I can hike out into the wilderness. I just got done watching that movie "Call of the Wild" about that guy that got dropped off into the wilds of Alaska to study wolves. Now I got a itch to do something like that. Just disapear into the wilderness for a year.

Rockies in the winter huh ?

Better let somebody know where you'll be camping at in case they have to dig your frozen carcass
out of a snow drift or bank.

You must be tougher than nails.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Just gotta keep that fire burning.Cutting firewood will keep you warm also, need alot of firewood. If I know ahead of time where I'll be camping, usualy I already have a cord cut and split and covered up by a tarp. Also I dig a hole in the ground to bury canned food and beer.Keeps it cold but not frozen. Cover it up with a piece of plywood and snow will insulate it. If the weather aint too nasty I take a hike to keep my mindset positive and not focus on being alone in the cold asking myself " why dont you just get a motel room ?". Waking up inthe morning and climbing out of the sleeping bag is the hardest part of the day. Just for kicks once inawhile I get naked and  jump out into the snow. It makes me feel more awake and warmer when I get dressed. Then get the fire going and make some breakfast. Make a itinerary of things to do for the day while eating, again this takes your mind off the cold. It's not that bad camping in the snow.

I perfer sleeping a hundred feet up on a tree limb.

Ahhh, waking up, dropping down upon a passing Gazelle, slaying it with a knife
and having it's uncooked meat for breakfast.

No 'frigid white stuff' down here in sunny Florida, but it can get chilly - in January we can see temps in the twenties and teens in the north part of the state.  I have camped in a tent in as low as 24 degrees.  30-some degrees with rain wasn't fun, but we did it one year.

It's hot and muggy here in the summer, so our camping season is late aurumn and winter.

Kinda the same here so we go either in  Spring or early Fall. I'd rather camp in the cooler seasons than in
the brutal heat of mid-Summer unless of course there is a decent cool-water swimming hole near abouts.

I'm getting psych'd up for some winter camping. I've been in snow twice sofar. I ran into some when I came up Donner Pass a couple weeks ago, I just ran into alittle snow south of Buffalo yesterday. I prefer the snow out west, it's not as wet and slushy as the snow in the east. It sucks to get wet feet when your out camping in the snow, hard to stay warm and enjoy yourself.

We saw temps as low as FOURTEEN degrees this year!  Luckily the next weekend, our big camp meet, it was a balmy thirty two the first night and in the forties the next few nights!
Had my electric blanket and Buddy propane heater on standby, JIC!   Grin

I haven't tried winter camping yet. Since my surgery, my back easily aches during the cold months. Hopefully I get to try it out one of these days.
