High End Tents

Tents like Eureka and Kelty can get very expensive.  Are there any tents out there that are very comparable in quality that I could purchase without breaking the bank?

It depends on several factors. What size of a tent are you looking for? Do you want to be able to stand up in it or is a dome tent fine? How many seasons, just three? How much money are you looking to spend? Do you want any special features or just the cheapest one that'll keep you dry?

I had a real nice ( I believe it's called ) OZARKTRAIL tent. I had it for a couple years,it cost me $40.00 I got it at a flea market. It was nice,had heavy duty fiberglass poles,slept four comfortably.Never leaked one drop. I wish I kept it. I did some moving around and left it behind. Now I have a EUREKA SUNRISE, it's nice enough for what I use it for. I'm looking to upgrade to something alittle bigger, heavier duty.

I'm in a good mood tonight. I just ordered a EUREKA TETRAGON 8 tent from Campmor. They were asking $109.00 for it. Cheaper than Cabelas price of $229.00 they quoted me. I can't wait to get home and set it up. I'm hoping this will be the last tent I'll need to buy for a couple years. I've read some reveiws on it and it sounds like a good, dependable tent and a bargain at that. Well, hope to see you out there camping sometime in the near future. I'll put an exrtra steak on the grill for ya !

I'd recommend Chinook products.  Very reasonable prices and good quality.

I have never heard of Chinook branded tents.  What retailers or internet sites sell these tents?  Are they comparable to a Coleman or North Face branded tent or private label tents like Northwest Territory or Ozark Trail for the mass chains?

I may have gone overboard alittle. I just bought another tent. It's the Kelty Teton4, I got it because it has a vestabule and aluminum poles. The only thing that concerns me is the size of the mesh panels.But, I see high dollar tents that are almost all mesh. Plus I had a Kelty before and never had a problem with it. Now I just have to send the Eureka back to the store and trade it for something else I want. Campmor is the store I bought both tents at, they are very accomadating and helpful as well as having good deals on camping gear.

Ok, this is the last tent I buy( until I find a better one). I bought a Kelty Trail Dome4 tent that was marked down so low I couldn't stop myself from buying it. I'm still not sure what I'll do with the other two tents I just bought, I may return them and use the store credit to buy a good pair of Hiking boots and a Steripen.

campman, you can get tents far better in quality than Kelty for less money.  The brand is Sierra Designs, the place is Ebay, and the price is 60% off of MSRP.  Sierra Designs is one of the most popular brands of tents, and due to large production volumes distributors offer these tents new-in-the-box every week.  I've bought three of them this way over the years and I'm very happy with them.  The latest in designs, the finest of materials, lifetime warranties, innovative features, the list goes on.

I personally like a columbia tent. I have had mine about 4 years and have used it in some not so pleasant weather camping with the scouts it has held up very well. The best thing I like is that the door zipper has yet to mess up on me where the zipper just pulls apart when you zip it up like some of the cheaper tents. Lots of people have different feelings but I think unless you get a good tent on sale you get what you pay for. I like this site for all my camping gear.
