My husband and I and our 7 children have tent camped for many years. We are in our late 50s and still tent camping. We have 2 Coleman 9x17 Weathermaster tents, one w/ screen room which doesn't have a floor, which is wonderful if it rains, and there's a large bedroom and a smaller room where your grandson could sleep. The other is symmetrical w/ a bedroom @ each end and a smaller area in the middle -- that one has an awning over the door, which is nice. We also have a dome tent which has windows pretty much all the way around, so it has really nice ventilation. We have a Eureka family tent as well. We are pleased w/ all the tents. The one key piece of gear we would NEVER want to give up is our Thermarest tandem luxury edition self-inflating sleep pad. We have most of our gear in totes so we can grab them and go fairly quickly and we don't have to drag everything out of the house. One tote is labeled "fire" and has newspaper, charcoal, charcoal chimney, charcoal lighter, citronella candles and lighters in it. We have a tall kitchen trash can we take -- in the bottom are trash bags, and we stow these items in the trash can: tablecloth, 2 dish pans, dish detergent, paper towels, dish towels and dish cloths, clothespins and clothesline, silverware in an old camping coffee pot, caddy w/ napkins and S&P. So the can is storage til we get set up, then it becomes a trash can. We have a roll-top aluminum table, Dutch Oven, axe, stove stand, 2 small totes full of kitchen stuff, double burner Coleman stove, a tote for our bedding. That's pretty comprehensive and I didn't mention firewood, lawn chairs, sleeping bags, on and on. Totally worth the effort!!!!
