Hey ok so I was looking for a firestarter and I found thisdite on the Internet : www.freewebs.com/amberpitch/
So I bought some "hunters" which are little sticks about four inches long. What's so great about these sticks is that they are covered in sap. Some peoplecall it pitch wood others fatwood. But you should try son if any one out there needs reliable firstarter. The site is:www.freewebs.com/amberpitch/ and if you can't find a phone number the number is (541) 426-8018

We use a couple of solutions for fire starters. See http://mycampgear.com/2008/08/24/test-fire-starters-made-cotton-wool-and-vaseline for an easy home made job and http://mycampgear.com/2008/08/20/review-light-my-fire-fire-stick for a manufactured solution.

Try this!  Pitch wood is great but there is a much cheaper solution than buying it and readily available.

Try this at home, out doors.  Take a common cotton ball and petroleum jelly.  Gum up the cotton ball with the jelly, ye
don't need to make no sloppy mess, jest a little dab'll do ye.

sit it on a bed of tinder with more piled on top, then proceed to built in a tepee shape with larger and larger fuel.

Be sure to leave an opening to reach the cotton ball with the ignition source, matches, Bics, etc.

I've seen videos of the cotton ball technique as a video response to my friends video channel:
 http://www.youtube.com/user/EconoChallenge

He has a bunch of stuff on their on fire-starting.  We've used fatwood, but with a pencil sharpener, so you can start a fire using  something like the bow-drill method very easily, because the fatwood shavings light up like tissue paper!

Check out this site for a better campfire product. This works beautiful and it has some nice features also. It keeps your kindling up so it burns better also to get the fire going. This is a recommended buy for anybody that wants a better campfire. Go to http://logteepee.com for more info and features or to purchase. You won't be disapointed. Great Product and made in Wisconsin.

Be careful about bringing your own logs or kindling.  You should buy local to the area so you dont spread bugs that are otherwise unfriendly to the particular habitat.
