Hi all... I am new here and just wanted to mention a place we have discovered that is a hidden gem. We are actually camping here in our Airstream right now... but the tent sites are just killer. The place is called Saddle Mountain and it is in Carmel, CA. The location is awesome because you are a few miles from the beach or if you head inland you can hike Garland Ranch... Monterey is 15 minutes away and Big Sur is about 40 minutes. The campsites have a view looking out over Carmel Valley from a really high vantage point in a forest full of gnarly old moss strewn oaks. It is just gorgeous. There is also a hiking trail up to the top if the mountain from the campground. It is a bit on the pricey side but so is everything else in this neck of the woods. Prices are on par with any other campground in the area. If you are passing through this is an excellent spot to stay. It's a little hard to find... tucked way up the main road. Also.... it's a super dog friendly spot.

Happy Camping!

We haven't camped there, but we love the Carmel Valley. We like to get lost up in the Ventana Wilderness, of course a lot of it down by Big Sur got toasted in the fire this summer. Arroyo Seco is a fantastic campground, with lots of great hiking - and it is quiet.
