How to get kids to stop asking "are we there yet?"

So my kids have never actually said "are we there yet?" They tend to say "how much longer" or "what time are we supposed to get there". Because I think all kids can see that you actually there yet. But either way, on long trips it is still annoying when they ask over and over again. So my solution is that no matter where we are going or how long it is going to take, I always say that we will be there in 1 hour (In all honesty, I probably give them the correct time we should arrive when we first start the trip, then they can figure it out from there). Now the first time I did this they got kind of annoyed because when they asked again in 15 min., the answer was the same and they knew that couldn't be right. However, after that first 8 hour car drive they figured out what I was doing. And it only took them a couple more trips to realize that they should stop asking because this was now the response they were going to get.
Now if they are concerned about how long the trip is taking they ask if we are still going to get there at whatever time I originally said we should arrive, which I find to be a much more reasonable question (particularly since they only tend to ask when we hit traffic).

My kids do the same. I tried your method but that just bugged me even more. Now I try to make the car trip as much fun for me and them as possible. We play games or listen to CD/tape stories. Our newest game is a version of the radio game 'Just a minute'. It is great fun, the kids 16,14,10 years just don't want to stop playing this one! We thought of this one as I had bought some tape stories from a car boot to play on our last trip, only to find half way there that our car (which we have had for several years) does not have tape deck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
